She was recently selected to become an ambassador for the Captain Tom Foundation and will be working on projects alongside her medical work to support the foundation.
During her studies, Chanelle became determined to resolve some of the health inequalities that exist in the BAME community. She has also conducted an audit to address the existing barriers of young diabetic patients who are attending their diabetic retinopathy screening appointments. This project won the best poster at the National Foundation Doctors Presentation Day. While her passion for teaching has enabled her to bag the National Teaching Award, she has additionally contributed to a dermatology textbook, Dermatology Cases in Skin of Color, a book that aims to educate medical professionals about skin conditions in different ethnicities. Her relentless work has further led her to get nominated as an exceptional “North West local leader”.
A South-African born, Chanelle has always tried to stay connected with her roots. Her work to empower black communities in Ghana got awarded with the Pius Adesanmi Memorial Student Award for outstanding contribution to Pan-Africanism.
