The model-turned-actor is redefining the industry’s beauty standards, one step at a time. The Euphoria star, 23, has embraced her curves after overcoming her body insecurities. No matter how great heights women have reached, some of us still suffer from body image issues. Unfortunately, our mainstream media still bombards teenagers with unrealistic beauty standards.
Barbie Ferreira is a body-positive icon to empower today’s young girls. She reminds us of Emily Ratajkowski, Serena Williams, and Ariel Winter and how they advocated for body positivity in 2016.
Time after time Ferreira has proved she is totally comfortable in her skin. She has helped girls around the globe feel empowered and efficient no matter their size. The plus-size actress’s boundary-pushing performance on HBO’s teen drama “Euphoria” is her dream role.
Barbie acknowledged the similarities between herself and her Euphoria character Kat. She is exploring how does it feel to be a girl who is different from the people around her. Ferreira also shared in an interview that she based her performance on her teenage self.
In an interview with Refinery 29, Barbie admitted that she didn’t care about what people think while she kept on experimenting with different looks after getting over her body insecurities. She further admitted that she never cared about her skin while she was growing up- “I was too busy with my other insecurities to care about my acne.” But when she was 16, she started modeling. As a result, she had to put on make-up for her regular photoshoots. Barbie shared- “So when I wasn’t shooting, I went make-up free and let my skin breadth.”
Besides fighting the same type of beauty standards as her character on Euphoria, she also shares a great love of make-up. Her Instagram followers can’t stop gushing over the model-turned actress’s flawless skin. But she admitted that it took her a while to un-learn some bad make-up lessons.
Well, she made some beauty-regime mistakes during her initial years of work. During an interview with “Byrdie”, she admitted that she used to overdo her skin-care routine with face oil. – “I have no idea why I used to lather oil on my already oily skin. I have definitely stopped that now.” She further explained that applying olive or rosehip essential oil on the face might work for people with dry skin, but for her, it was a huge mistake.
Also, Ferreira didn’t shy away from sharing that she used to have plenty of whiteheads before. But she has learned how to keep her make-up simple or just go with a make-up-free look once in a while. Her current less-is-more approach is the secret ( well, not anymore) hack behind her glowing skin and flawless appearance.
