The Success Saga Of The Visionary Entrepreneur

A Case Study On Elon Musk

by Alex McCurry
in Business

The disruptor, innovator, and game-changer Elon Musk has become a household name. He gained even more universal recognition when he outweighed Jeff Bezos as the world’s richest man, in Jan 2021. According to the latest report, the founder of SpaceX and Tesla owns a net worth of $185. After a remarkable boost in the share price of Telsa, Musk moved to the top of the wealthiest men’s list.

We can gush over the fact that how is the PayPal co-founder has accomplished so much. We can also use a lot of adjectives to describe him – leader, innovator, genius, futurist, and so on.

But can we figure out what made him so successful?  And can we at least try to embody them in our lives? It’s easier said than done, but it’s not impossible.

Ordinary People Can Become Extraordinary Too

Not only Elon, we too believe that every ordinary person has some extraordinary potentiality. It’s only everyone doesn’t know how to make the most of it.  So, let’s dive in to understand Elon’s success story and try to find our inspiration to make it big!

What Was Growing Up Like For Musk?

Every successful person’s biography contains key events from their lives that drove them to success. Musk is also no exception.

Born on 28th June 1971, in Pretoria, South Africa, Elon was the oldest of three children. His South African-born British father, Errol Musk, was an electromechanical engineer, and his Canadian-English mother, Maye musk was a model and nutritionist.

Musk took his first big decision at the age of 17 after graduating from his secondary school in Pretoria. Without his parent’s support, he decided to move to Canada to avoid serving in the South African Military. He graduated with a B.S.C. in Physics along with a B.A. in Economics from Wharton School Of Business.

The rest of Musk’s career and growth details are already there on  Wikipedia. But here are the key reasons that explain why is he so successful today – the kind of success everyone dreams about, but very few of them dare to achieve!

His Key Personality Traits

  • Not Ready To Take “NO” As An Answer

Here’s a little backstory of his college days. After receiving 98% on one of the tests, he went to his professor and got them to change the score to 100%. The perfectionist in him faced the possibly awkward situation that many will shy away from. But in the end, he got what he wanted. Think how many opportunities we lose because of our fear of asking!

  • An Unblinking Focus

Musk has perfected his art of staying focused. There was a time when Tesla was going through a specific problem that needed a quick fix. Musk used to work 75 hours a week and sleep under his desk until the issue got solved. When we look at Tesla now, it’s a booming giant that is changing the automotive world!

  • Small Ideas Led To Bigger Achievements

Most of his grand business ideas came from small questions. For instance, he wondered how can California transit be more convenient? The answer was an electric railroad that dugs into the side of a mountain, and goes through an enormous tunnel. The initial question is always small but a prospective answer comes out as a solution.

The Final Thought

Each of the traits we have discussed above shows that Elon Musk is quite intense. But, he does everything in a constructive and healthy way- the Musk way!
