For small business owners, having a mentor is crucial for success. But finding someone who really gets your business and can offer the right guidance can be tough. Early in Mashi Epting’s career, she’d often congratulate herself whenever entrepreneurs made it to their mark – but soon realized that the truth is, they were already great, just needed that little nudge towards the right direction. She says, “I was just fortunate enough to have a role on the sidelines, guiding and cheering them on.”
Over the years, Mashi has built an extensive portfolio, including Complete Treatment, a healthcare company specializing in comprehensive care based on the DSM-5-TR; Complete Taxes, a reputable tax company; and Complete Tax and Training Software, which offers business setup, tax software, and training. Additionally, she founded May She Outreach, a non-profit organization aimed at uplifting underprivileged communities.
‘When asked about one of her favorite mentorship experiences, she shared, “One moment stands out vividly when I witnessed a team member display extraordinary leadership skills, making a profound impact on the organization. This individual took charge during a critical project, demonstrating not only technical expertise but also remarkable empathy and communication skills. Their ability to inspire and rally the team around a common goal was awe-inspiring, and it was then I understood the real essence of leadership.”
Reflecting on her own journey, she explained how her coaches and mentors have played such a prominent role. “They’ve been absolutely critical to my continuous growth, especially during moments when I felt ready to quit or take a drastic turn in my career”, she said.
As she started researching more on her experiences, she wanted to better articulate the importance of mentorship programs to her clients looking to grow their own businesses. “What stands out to me is how coaching and mentoring relationships have been transformative for my career. They provided the support, guidance, and encouragement needed to develop leadership skills and achieve professional success.”
Understanding this, she saw how essential it is to foster mentorship programs within organizations. These relationships not only help individuals grow but also significantly enhance the overall effectiveness and morale of the team.
For Mashi, mentorship is not just about imparting knowledge; it’s about leading by example and being a constant source of inspiration and support.
Guidance Through Challenges
The journey to success is rarely a straight path. Challenges and obstacles are part of the deal, and trying to face them alone can be pretty overwhelming. This is where a mentor like Mashi Epting comes in. Having been through similar struggles herself, Mashi knows a thing or two about overcoming hurdles and is always ready to share her wisdom.
Mashi’s approach to guiding others through tough times is all about empathy and shared experience. She gets that every setback is a chance to learn something new. When one of her mentees hits a rough patch, she doesn’t just throw out generic advice. Instead, she draws from her own journey, offering insights that are practical and relatable.
Accelerated Growth
Mentorship can significantly accelerate personal and professional growth. By learning from someone else’s experiences and mistakes, mentees can avoid common pitfalls and fast-track their progress.
One of the biggest advantages of having Mashi as a mentor is her ability to offer advice and strategies tailored specifically to her mentees’ situations. She has often taken time to understand the unique challenges and goals of each mentee, providing customized solutions that are much more effective. She says, “This personalized approach helps mentees avoid common pitfalls and take actions that directly contribute to their growth.”
Her experience in business and finance means that she has encountered and overcome a wide array of challenges. With all those experiences, she helps her mentees avoid mistakes that she made and learn from her successes. We think this transfer of knowledge is invaluable because it helps mentees to benefit from years of experience in a fraction of the time. They can implement proven strategies and avoid wasting time on trial and error.
Building Support Network
Building a support network is one of the most invaluable benefits of mentorship. When you connect with a mentor, you’re not just gaining one person’s insight and experience; you’re also tapping into their entire network of contacts. This can open up a world of opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach.
According to Mashi Epting, a robust support network can significantly accelerate your professional growth. She emphasizes that mentors introduce mentees to key players in their industry, potential clients, and other valuable contacts. These connections can lead to collaborations, partnerships, and new business opportunities. She believes this kind of networking acts like a shortcut, giving mentees access to a trusted circle of professionals who offer advice, share resources, and provide support.
Mashi also points out how this network becomes a “source of ongoing support.” Imagine, you need advice on a challenging project, feedback on a new idea, or just someone to brainstorm with – having a strong support network ensures you’re never alone in your journey. This sense of community can boost your confidence, provide different perspectives, and help you stay motivated and resilient in the face of challenges.
Accumulating her experience, she says, “It’s crucial to recognize that mentorship isn’t confined to formal programs; it can emerge from informal connections and evolve into enduring relationships. While spring presents an opportune moment to embark on this journey, mentorship is a timeless resource, applicable at any stage of life.”
In her mentoring journey, Mashi has guided over 15 individuals to attain millionaire status and played a pivotal role in scaling companies into multi-million dollar enterprises. She left a lasting impact on her hometown of Monroe, LA, by establishing its first-ever post office on the south side, making history in the process. Beyond this, Mashi was honored to attend and be acknowledged as a top sponsor at the Black Conservative Federation event in February, where President Donald Trump served as the keynote speaker.
